Top 7 Transfer Round-up
Oh my! So many transfers to keep up with, how is it even possible? This summer, we are bringing you a quick recap of all the biggest transfer news for the biggest Premier League clubs.
Surely you have heard of the massive signings thus far this summer, like Rooney’s legendary return to Everton and Lukaku’s massive move to Old Trafford from Goodison Park. But what else is going on with the Premier League giants with only a month left until the regular season begins?
In north London, the Gunners are having an intriguing summer. The whole world heard of the massive deal that saw Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette move to the Emirates in a record-breaking transfer from Olympique Lyonnais. But what else is going on? Well, not much.
Arsenal was interested in snagging Kylian Mbappe for a world-record fee, but that didn’t quite fall through. However, the Gunners did acquire a versatile defender from Schalke, Bosnian international Sead Kolasinac.

Just down the road, Tottenham Hotspur have had an extremely quiet transfer window. The Spurs have an extremely solid young core of players, and Argentinian manager Pochettino doesn’t want to interrupt his up-and-coming powerhouse. He might have the best striker in the league in 23-year-old Harry Kane, and potentially the best winger/midfielder in Dele Alli. It looks like they are hunkering down this summer and preparing for next season.
Over in west London at Stamford Bridge, things are much more interesting. With lingering questions over who will replace Diego Costa up front, it looks like Spaniard Alvaro Morata is their preferred candidate. The Blues also strengthened their defensive ranks with the acquisition of Antonio Rudiger from AS Roma. They picked up attacker Bertrand Traore from Lyon, and sent Tammy Abraham to Swansea on a one-year deal. Oh, and the Pride of London also quietly sent club legend John Terry to Aston Villa on a free transfer.
Let’s move our attention from the English capital to Manchester. At the Etihad, Pep Guardiola is having a relatively solid summer. Having sent failed goalkeeper experiment Willy Cabellero to Chelsea, the world-class manager brought the young and promising Brazilian keeper Ederson to Manchester from Benfica in Lisbon. Going along with the Portuguese theme, the Citizens snagged up Bernardo Silva from French champions AS Monaco. They also sent wideback Pablo Zabaleta to West Ham.
Across town at the Theatre of Dreams, United is late to the party. Jose Mourinho has waited until the last week or so to make any big-time moves. Before the recent Rooney/Lukaku swap with Everton, the only major signing made by the Red Devils was of defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica. The football world was expecting a blockbuster transfer for superstar Atletico striker Antoine Griezmann before a transfer ban forced the Frenchman to remain in the Spanish capital.
Moving over to the coastal city of Liverpool, Everton are setting themselves up nicely for next season with a slew of young player signings. Wayne Rooney is of course not included in the aforementioned “young” category. The Toffees brought Davy Klaassen over from Ajax in the Dutch capital, as well as signing prospects Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane from Sunderland and Burnley, respectively. Everton also brought in former Barcelona man Sandro Ramirez from Malaga.
Down the street at Anfield, the Reds have also had a pretty quiet summer. After sending Mamadou Sakho to Crystal Palace back in January, Liverpool have signed two very solid attackers this summer. One developed, one yet to prove himself. The long-awaited transfer of youngster Dominic Solanke has been one of the top prospect-signings of the summer. Chelsea were sorry to see him leave. The Reds also brought in winger Mohammed Salah from the Italian giants AS Roma to help Brazilians Coutinho and Firmino up front.
Well, that about wraps it up for the Premier League big boys. With a month left this transfer window, we are sure to see many more surprising moves. I am very interested to see what happens with Chelsea and Alvaro Morata. We will provide another transfer update before the season begins in August.
