Liverpool set to sign goalkeeper Joe Hart in £20 million summer move
Liverpool are set to sign Joe Hart from Manchester City in the hope of solving the club’s ongoing goalkeeping issues.
Liverpool will sign Joe Hart this summer from Manchester City for a fee of £20 million, according to The Sun. Jurgen Klopp is unconvinced by his current options and sees Hart as the man to arrive as the Red’s new number one.
Hart has been on loan at Torino in Serie A this season, after Pep Guardiola deemed the 30-year-old surplus to requirements at City. Now with that loan about to end, Hart needs to find a new permanent club.
That club is set to be Liverpool, and with the issues Klopp has had with both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, the move could prove beneficial for both parties. There is no way back for Hart at City under Guardiola, so a transfer to what looks like being a Champions League team would be an ideal resolution.
However, is the move really a good one for Liverpool? On the face of it, signing an established Premier League goalkeeper, who has been a Premier League winner on two occasions, and the current England number one seems like a fantastic signing.

But much like Mignolet and Karius, Hart has been erratic himself for much of his career. This season, he has made more errors leading to goals than any other goalkeeper – bar Palermo’s Josip Posavec – in any of Europe’s top five leagues.
There’s always been the good, the bad and – unfortunately – the ugly with Hart, even right back to when he was a youngster. That’s what you sign up for. Just last weekend he made yet another error leading to a goal as Torino drew 1-1 with lowly Crotone.
It was a similar story at Manchester City, where Manuel Pellegrini was forced to bench Hart for a spell back in 2014, due to a particularly bad patch of mishaps. Unfortunately, it’s the type of form that Liverpool fans are already accustomed to with Mignolet and Karius.
The difference being that Hart’s highs are much higher than Liverpool’s current options. He is undoubtedly better than both Karius and Mignolet. At his best, Hart is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Not quite on the level of the elite duo of Thibaut Courtois or David De Gea, but the next bracket down certainly. So although the signing may well be a good one for Liverpool, it might not necessarily be problem completely solved in Liverpool’s goalkeeping department.
However, a certain upgrade, at a fair price, nonetheless.
