Pep Guardiola has been dragged into a war of words with Yaya Toure’s agent Dimitri Seluk. But Toure himself is far from exempt from blame in the situation.

Yaya Toure’s agent, Dimitri Seluk, is seemingly on a one-man crusade to damage the reputation of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. In fact, what Seluk is actually doing, however, is building his own name recognition. Although, not in a positive light, but a negative one.

Toure is staying silent throughout, choosing to let his agent do the talking for him. That’s not helping matters. Seluk is out of control with some of his recent statements and Toure allowing him to attack his club and his manager shows just where the Ivorian stands.

A vow of silence might come across as being non-committal. Not in this case. Seluk is known for saying outlandish things, yet Toure has never seemingly seen anything wrong with what he says. That’s the problem. Seluk really has nobody to answer to.

He’s supposed to be looking out for Toure’s best interests, but how does having the midfielder banished to the stands for the remainder of his City contract help his client? It shows where his priorities really are. Defend yourself, worry about Yaya later.

Seluk is defending himself, too. The Ukranian hasn’t stopped spewing nonsense ever since Guardiola asked for an apology on Tuesday. Seluk, not satisfied with his previous off-the-wall comments, is now doubling down in an attempt to validate his previous claims.

Yet still, Toure says nothing. Seluk answers to nobody and that’s why he feels like he can say whatever he wants each day. Who is the talent and who is the hired agent here? It’s backwards. Toure has all the power but surrenders to Seluk. You reap what you sow.

Seluk really wields no power in this situation. But you would think he had a gun to City and Guardiola’s head the way he continues to speak. Seluk declared war on Guardiola on Tuesday. A war he’s already lost. Guardiola checkmated Seluk the moment he banished Toure to the stands. There is no comeback. You’re finished.

Seluk’s continued low blows to Guardiola only go to show where his real interests are. He isn’t defending poor Yaya Toure against the evil Pep Guardiola. He’s engaging in a personal agenda at a time when his personal agenda is not important. His job is to look after Yaya Toure. Not Dimitri Seluk.

The fact Toure can’t see that himself makes you worry about more than just his mobility on the field. Seluk is starting a war that he can’t win and only serves to make him and Toure look bad. Further more, only serves to make Toure’s life difficult. That’s okay with good ol’ Dimitri, though.

Seluk claims that top clubs all want Toure, but it’s not 2012 anymore. Top European clubs are not going to want a 2016 Yaya Toure that comes with an uncontrollable mouthpiece with no off switch. And, on top of that, pay through the nose for the pleasure.

The delusion of Seluk clearly knows no bounds. But Toure has allowed him to get to this point. Things have spiralled out of control and it’s because Toure doesn’t exert his authority over Seluk. Rather more, it seems to be the other way around.
