Chelsea FC striker Didier Drogba says he wants to remain at Stamford Bridge after his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Ivorian — who attained legendary status at Chelsea during his first eight-year stint — received the 2015 Football Writer’s Association Tribute Award on Sunday night, at a gala dinner hosted in London.

He voiced his desire to continue being a part of the club which he calls his family, and thinks that there is more to do.

"“When you have achieved so much and won so many trophies like we have done in the past 10 years, that creates something special.”“I hope, and the club makes me believe, I am part of this big family, so we are going to find the best thing for both of us to promote the club in the best way.”“When I left this club (the first time), I was saying that I had done everything I wanted to do, but I think now that I did not do everything, I think there is more to do. I love this club and would love to be part of this club for the future, with the new players.”“I am really proud for this award, in the list of previous winners there are a lot of players whom I really respect and grew up trying to reach there level, so for me this is a great honor. When I came to England, things were difficult, there was the language barrier and culture change.”-Didier DrogbaSource: Fox Sports"

Drogba left Chelsea after winning the Champions League in 2012. After spells with Shanghai and Galatasaray, he returned to the club at the beginning of this season. At 36 — and no longer the force he once was — he has had to play second fiddle to Diego Costa, but for the most part, he has delivered when called upon.

Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho — who has always refused to pick a favorite — was full of praise for the forward.

"“Throughout my career, I have always refused to say which is my favorite player or the best person, because so many have given soul and blood to play and to fight with me, but if I have to choose one who represents all the good things you want in a player and a man, I think in this moment I would choose Didier.”-Jose Mourinho"

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry also voiced admiration for Drogba, describing him as a legend, and someone whom he would have enjoyed playing with.

"“I think he is a legend of the game. Powerful, an amazing finisher. I remember when he first arrived it was not easy for him people were having a go at him but he kept on working.”“He is one of the players I would love to have played with, he had all the attributes you would want from a fellow striker. He was such a great player — and still is — and he has done so much for the game and for Chelsea. You can only respect that.”-Thierry Henry"

I would like to believe that Didier Drogba would be welcome to stay with the Blues as long as he wants, in whatever capacity he wants. He is — as he has always been — a valuable member of the Chelsea squad; fans and players alike would surely want to see the ‘Old Drog’ suit up in Chelsea blue for one more season at least.
