Snoop Dogg aka Snoop Lion posted up a video on Instagram where he calls ex-Tottenham player Clint Dempsey the best soccer player in the world. He also cheered on the U.S. National Soccer team to win the World Cup.
The US National Soccer team never landed a splash celebrity endorsement from my memory, so the sight of Snoop giving a shout out to the Stars and Stripes come as a pleasant surprise. Still, Snoop’s comment would leave soccer fans in a facepalm since Clint Dempsey is far from being the best player in the world. The Sounders’ midfielder is more than a year removed from the English Premier League and is in the MLS. Although Dempsey has been one of the leading scorers in the MLS this season, it’s unlikely that his numbers will translate to the World Cup.
Even though Snoop’s comment was done for fun and support, it would’ve been better if the “Gin and Juice” artist decided to do a rap collaboration with Dempsey. In case you didn’t know, Clint Dempsey is a hip-hop aficionado and released a song back in 2006 under his hip-hop monicker, Deuce, alongside Big Hawk, who passed away months after “Don’t Tread” was released.
Although Dempsey’s track isn’t a chart-topper, it’s safe to say that he has enough talent to merit a guest role in Snoop’s next album. Heck, Dempsey is skilled enough to do a cypher alongside the Long Beach-native. If Snoop and Dempsey posted a freestyle track or did a #fourbarfriday on Instagram, definitely a lot of support and hype will surround the US Men’s national team before the start of the World Cup.
